Methodical Diagnosis

Osteopathy employs non-intrusive, manual techniques to identify, diagnose and pinpoint the underlying source of your discomfort and the pain it triggers.

For instance, when addressing back pain, the focus of your assessment may include your hips and lower limbs to ensure all factors have been considered to determine the true origin of your pain.

Occasionally, the diagnostic process can be progressive, in that the more appointments and treatment you have will uncover the root cause of your issue.

Hands On Treatment

Osteopathic care involves treating injured body tissues and joints using massage, joint mobilisation, articulation, and muscle stretching, alongside other methods..

Our osteopaths assess joints and muscles through palpation (touch), posture assessment, and your range of movement to identify and diagnose areas of tissue and joint damage.

The treatment stimulates your body's natural healing processes for pain relief, helping increase blood supply to tissues to alleviate muscle tension.

what to expect from your first osteopathy appointment

Consultation

When you make an appointment you are emailed a secure Medical History Form, consent and privacy form. This can be completed on your phone, tablet or computer.

We assess your answers to the forms, and the first part of your appointment is your osteopath asking pertinent questions on your health history.

Your osteopath is aiming to build a clear picture of your problem in the context of your health and background. They will then look to physically assess you.

Assessment

The physical assessment aims to get to the root of your problem, taking into account your muscle and joint restrictions, posture, and range of movement.

To assesses those many physical factors you will likely be asked to undress to your underwear or remove some items of clothing so they can best view your issue.

Finally to help rule out any other pathologies or red flags your osteopath may carry out further tests such as your reflexes, blood pressure or neurological testing.

Treatment

Your osteopath will use a combination of manual techniques like massage, stretching, joint articulation or manipulation and exericses to treat your pain and problem.

Treatment will last the remainder of the 45 minute appointment - roughly 15-20 minutes - and your osteopath will advise on your treatment plan before you leave.

It is highly likely your osteopath will book a follow-up appointment with you in order to assess your body’s reaction to treatment and to progress with the outlined treatment plan.

Follow-up

Your osteopath will likely book a follow-up to assess your reaction to the treatment - you may be a little sore which is completely normal as your body adjusts and begins to heal.

In most cases a course of treatment is advised where the osteopath can effectively treat your problem and work to ensure any reoccurence or relapse is minimal.

Our osteopaths will articulate to you their personalised treatment plans for your condition, which will be reviewed at every appointment as you progress.

Treatment Plan

Osteopathy is a medical profession with a priority on getting patients better and making a positive impact on every patient’s health with a bespoke treatment plan.

We really encourage patients to follow their osteopath’s advice and see their treatment plan through to conclusion, even if sometimes progress can be slow.

Patients react differently to treatment so we keep an open dialogue to discuss progress with you in every appointment and can tweak treatment plans to suit.
